Ronnie bin Bahari

Semai

Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Peria Sahom, Kampar, Perak

A photographer, cultural enthusiast, and pensol (traditional instrument) player, Ronnie is dedicated to reviving Orang Asli heritage. Frustrated by outsiders’ portrayals of his community as “primitive,” he picked up a camera to reclaim the narrative, using media to tell stories and inspire pride among younger generations. He founded Persatuan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Orang Asal Peak (PKKOAP), and his work has been featured internationally, including at the Venice Biennale.

the Allyship Pledge

We recognise that a sustainable, thriving future is inherently relational and reciprocal. As signatories, we accept our shared agency and responsibility in shaping such futures.

We will, therefore, take action and begin from where we are. In Malaysia, this starts with principled, intentional, and meaningful allyship with the Orang Asli.

We therefore commit to stand with the Orang Asli as allies: to listen with humility, show up in solidarity, and walk alongside them in their pursuit of justice, equity, and self-determination – whether as those who call Malaysia home, or as guests upon this land.
